Hatten Wines, Bali’s first and oldest winery, proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of dedication to quality and innovation in the wine industry. Since its founding in 1994, Hatten Wines has cultivated a unique winemaking tradition, utilizing both international and heritage grape varieties grown in Bali’s distinct island vineyards. Today, the winery stands as a leader in the local market and a respected name in the global wine community.

A Legacy of Quality and Innovation

Hatten Wines began its journey in 1994 through its subsidiary, PT Arpan Bali Utama, and officially commenced operations under PT Hatten Bali in 2000. From its humble beginnings with a single rosé wine crafted from the native Bali grape variety, Alphonse Lavallée, the winery has grown exponentially. Hatten Wines now manages in total about 60 hectares of vineyards in Singaraja, Bali, producing a diverse range of wines that reflect the island’s unique terroir.

The winery’s product portfolio has expanded over the years to include three distinctive brands: Hatten Wines, TWO Islands, TWO Islands Reserve and Dragonfly Wines. These brands collectively offer 30 wine variants (Hatten Wines has 13 items, TWO Islands has 11 items, TWO Islands Reserve has 4 items and Dragonfly Wines has 2 items), with more on the horizon, including the highly anticipated TWO Islands Prosecco set to launch in October 2024.

A Milestone Achievement: IPO and Beyond

On January 10, 2023, Hatten Wines reached a significant milestone by completing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Indonesian Stock Exchange, trading under the symbol ‘WINE.’ This achievement underscores the company’s enduring success and its ambition to expand its reach and influence in the world of fine wines.

Hatten Wines, trading under the ticker symbol “WINE,” continues to show promising financial performance in the stock market. The company’s stock is currently trading with a Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of 19.03x and a Price-to-Book (P/B) value of 2.90x. The company reported a net profit of IDR 27 billion for the first semester of 2024, marking a significant increase of 19.5% compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, the company’s income surged in the first quarter of 2024, with a reported profit of IDR 14.8 billion, reflecting a 19.8% increase quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). This financial growth is underpinned by the company’s strategic market positioning and the recovery of Bali’s tourism industry.

Additionally, Hatten Wines has been proudly recognized as a Cobranding Partner of Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, an acknowledgment of its status as an original local brand that actively partners with the ministry to elevate Indonesian brands on the international stage

A Commitment to Excellence Recognized Globally

Over the past three decades, Hatten Wines has garnered numerous international accolades, including being named Winery of the Year by the Asian Wine Review in 2017 surpassing more than 300 wine types from over 100 wineries in nine Asian countries. The Winery of the Year award is granted to wineries that consistently excel in their winemaking processes and flavor profiles.

Additionally, Hatten Wines was recognized as the Best Trophy Winner by the Asian Wine Review, reaffirming its status as a distinguished wine producer in Asia. The Asian Wine Review, published by The Flying Winemaker in Hong Kong, conducts evaluations through “Blind Wine Tastings,” ensuring that wines are assessed impartially.

“Our vineyards, nestled between the villages of Seririt and Sanggalangit on Bali’s picturesque northern coast, are the heart of our extensive viticulture research and development,” said Ida Bagus Rai Budarsa, Founder & CEO of Hatten Wines.

Ida Bagus Rai Budarsa being named the Southeast Asia Wine Pioneer Award winner in 2011 and Bali Top Hospitality Leader in 2024 added, “Here, we cultivate a diverse range of grape varieties, from Bali’s own Muscat St. Vallier to international varieties like Syrah, Chenin Blanc and some others, in collaboration with local farmers. This image captures the vibrant growth and dedication that define our commitment to winemaking excellence.”

Educating the Next Generation of Wine Enthusiasts

In addition to its winemaking endeavors, Hatten Wines is committed to education through the Hatten Education Center. Established in 2016 within The Cellardoor in Sanur, Bali, the center is Indonesia’s first institution to be appointed as an Approved Programs Provider by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). This prestigious designation allows Hatten Wines to offer internationally recognized wine and spirit education programs, enhancing the knowledge and expertise of wine enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Looking Ahead: Innovation and Expansion

As Hatten Wines celebrates its 30th anniversary, the company remains focused on innovation and expansion. With plans to introduce new grape varieties and planting methods in its vineyards, Hatten Wines is poised to continue its pioneering role in Indonesian winemaking. The upcoming launch of TWO Islands Prosecco is just one example of the exciting developments on the horizon.
