Each activity and cuisine means wishes of luck and prosperity for the upcoming year, experience the authentic charm of old-world Japanese celebrations at HOSHINOYA Bali.

Nengajo

A Japanese tradition of sending a new year card symbolizing thoughtfulness. Designed as a postcard, guests are guided to write their wishes in for the coming year in Japanese characters.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available daily at Public Gazebo at 11.00-12.00 from 18 – 28 December 2022.


Kirigami & Origami

Kirigami or Japanese paper cutting means the art of “cut picture”. Create beautiful designs by cutting sections out of a single sheet of paper. Enhance the handicraft with the art of folding paper or origami to make a memorable Japanese-inspired token.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available daily at Public Gazebo 17.00-18.00 from 18 – 31 December 2022.


Fukuwarai

Fukuwarai, meaning happy laugh, is a simple game that makes you laugh on the first day of the new year. Put on a blindfold and attempt to place facial features in the correct positions of a blank face.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available daily at Public Gazebo at 17.00 – 18.00 from 30 December 2022 to 2 January 2023.


Festive Dinner Menu

Excite your palate with various of delectable Japanese festivities menus including Yosenabe, Sushi, Sashimi, and Jewel Box. Served from high quality and the freshest ingredients, the menu is carefully crafted to present a meaningful togetherness to welcome the new year. Set course menu is available.

Available at the dining area from 18.00 on 18 December 2022 to 3 January 2023.


Amazake

A Japanese traditional healthy drink using rice and koji or rice malt. Guests can sip a warm cup of Amazake in the morning to start the day and warm up the body. To explore the taste of amazake, in the afternoon guests are also welcome to enjoy more variety of Amazake at the Sake Bar.

Complimentary for in-house guests. Available at the dining area from 7.30-11.00 and at the Sake Bar from 14.30-16.30, from 18 December 2022 to 3 January 2023.


Toshikoshi Soba

Spend New Year’s Eve and taste this authentic Japanese dish. Traditionally, families gather together and eat Toshikoshi soba, a symbol of longevity, on New Year’s Eve to wish for good health in the coming year.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available in the dining area or Public Gazebo from 21.00 – 22.30 on 31 December 2022.


Ozoni

A traditional soup with mochi and vegetables enjoyed on New Year’s Day, featuring Mitsuba, or three-leaved Japanese parsley, tied in a knot, which means forming a good relationship with someone or good luck.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available at the dining area from 7.30 – 11.00 on 1 – 3 January 2023.


Iwai-zake

On New Year’s Day, many Japanese people drink a celebratory sake called Iwai Zake. Guests are welcome to enjoy Iwai Zake for 3 days in a row from the 1st day of New Year.

Complimentary for in-house guests.

Available at the reception area from 7.30 – 11.00 on 1 – 3 January 2023.
