You’ll never forget the moment you set foot on the shores of Bali—pristine beaches, water prime for snorkelling, and volcanos that make for a dramatic backdrop.
When your cruise ship stops off in Bali, you’ll want to make the most of your time there, so keep this to-do list handy.
What To Do During Your Bali Cruise Stop-Off
You can reach some incredible destinations through a cruise—Bali being one of them! However, you will probably only be there for a day, so here’s how you should consider spending your time.
1. Head to Uluwatu Temple
Once you dock at the Port of Benoa, catch a taxi or arrange for a driver to take you to Uluwatu Temple, a Hindu temple located on a 70-meter-high cliff above the ocean. It’s in the extreme south of Bali, so expect the trip to take around 45 minutes depending on traffic, but the views are worth it.
2. Take a Quick Dip
Now that you’re on the south side, you’ll be a short drive away from Padang Padang and Jimbaran beach, so pack your swimsuit. Padang Padang Beach has a beautiful secluded cove that’s perfect for some quick photos.
Packing hack: Don’t forget to take a change of clothes and a bag for your wet swimsuit once you’re done at the beach.
3. Visit Ubud
Once you’ve cooled off, you’ll want to spend your late morning and afternoon in Ubud. The drive is about 2 hours if the roads aren’t congested, but it’s one of the best places to experience some true Balinese culture.
Ubud is where you will find the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, home to cheeky monkeys and ancient temples. You’ll also be close to restaurants such as Sari Organik and Bebek Bengil—perfect for an authentic lunch. And, before you leave, you can do a little shopping at the Ubud Market.
4. Experience the Kecak Fire Dance
If you can leave Ubud in time, plan to be at the Uluwatu Temple by sunset, where you’ll get to experience the famous Kecak Fire Dance. This traditional performance tells the story of Ramayana using chanting, acting, and fire. The fire set against the sunset and the ocean makes for an unforgettable memory.
5. Dine at the Beach
Depending on what time you need to board your cruise liner again, end off your day in Bali with a meal at the beach. Nusa Dua Beach is the closest and has a number of restaurants on offer.
Koral restaurant will give you the most magical experience as it’s set in an aquarium but you’ll want to make sure you have enough time to enjoy the experience. Alternatively, the Urban Seaside restaurant and bar is ideal if you want a quick laidback meal near the ocean before you depart.
A Beautiful Day in Bali
Bali is one of those destinations that deserves to be explored for a longer period of time. However, if your cruise is calling and you only have a day to enjoy these shores, these are some of the spots that will give you the most insight into what Bali has to offer.
