Canggu is by far the hippest destination in Bali and perhaps even Asia. What was once a sleepy surf village is now a collection of hip restaurants, bars, beach clubs and boutique shops. You do not come there for sightseeing but really purely for the lifestyle of delicious and healthy food, shopping sessions, fun parties and, if you can, surfing. If this sounds good to you, Canggu is a good destination to start your journey through Bali. After all, it is only a 1-hour drive from the airport. Crowded? Don’t expect a country cap because Canggu is busy and lively, but Canggu is certainly 3x less crowded than nearby places like Seminyak, Sanur or Kuta. The main street can be busy, but you are also right in the middle of the rice fields or on the beach. Canggu is just under an hour’s drive from the airport, making it ideal to start your trip here and recover for a few days.

Canggu is known for its many hip restaurants where almost every dish on the menu is mega-healthy and looks fantastic. That while most meals cost only about 5 euros. The choice of lunchrooms and cafés is enormous.

If you like motors or surfing (or both) then Deus Ex Machina is the ideal concept store, with a restaurant in Canggu Bali a recommended place to visit. Even if you don’t like motor or surfing, you should still bring a visit because the food is fantastic. You will find this restaurant in the middle of Canggu, roughly half-hour from Seminyak. At Deus Ex Machina Canggu, you can treat yourself to a new surf plank or retro-looking motor. If this is difficult to bring home, you should visit the concept store around breakfast, lunch or dinner time. Deus Ex Machina Canggu namely has a super delicious and relaxed restaurant. Look around the shop and then order your food and drinks. The place is open the whole day, serving yummy eggs and great coffee for breakfast, salads for lunch, and western and Indonesian dishes for dinner. It even got a kids’ menu, so it’s a child-friendly place.

The view of the rice fields makes that there is calmness among the traffic and hordes of tourists heading to the beach for a surf lesson or just to wander through the streets of Canggu. Deus café also gives people a place for more of a hangout. Many people are settling in with their laptops using the Wi-Fi and working in the café. This makes Deus a place where everyone is welcome.

On the menu, you will find tasty Indonesian and Thai dishes, but you can also enjoy western food, for example, burgers, salads & steaks. They also have fun-themed evenings, with a band playing on Sundays at the end of the afternoon. From about 4 p.m., Deus Ex Machina Canggu Bali is full of surfers and ex-pats who come for a drink. On Tuesdays, they have Taco Tuesday at Deus Ex Machina Canggu Bali. You can eat tasty tacos with fish, chicken or beef and get a free tattoo if you have tacos. So, if you have plans for a tattoo already, this is your chance!

To conclude, when visiting Canggu, you should definitely visit Deus Ex Machina. The concept store has a wide range of products, and you can even get a tattoo or surfboard there. The concept store is also the place to go when looking for smaller products and souvenirs. The restaurant offers a wide variety of good food, and I assure you, you will not be disappointed when visiting the restaurant.
