The wonderfully relaxed coastal town of Lovina is located in the north of Bali and is much quieter than Balinese beach resorts like Kuta or Legian on the southern part of Bali. Lovina is the perfect destination if you like peace and quiet but also beautiful beaches, snorkelling, diving and dolphin spotting. Lovina actually consists of seven smaller towns in a row namely Kalibukbuk, Temukus, Anturan, Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Banyualit and Kaliasem. Kalibukuk is the most central and forms the centre of Lovina. You will find various Lovina travel tips in many Bali and Indonesia travel guides.

Lovina has pretty much everything that Kuta also has apart from the big crowds. You do find tourists and backpackers who have stuck around this laid-back part of Bali for longer than planned. Many tourists seek out this part of Bali precisely because of the clarity and tranquillity to be found there. One noticeable difference is that Lovina’s beaches have dark sand while those in the south have white sand. It does not make this beautiful place any less beautiful.

Lovina lends itself perfectly to diving, snorkelling, dolphin spotting and fishing. The coastal waters around Lovina are rich in beautiful corals. Buluh Bay (Buluh Bay) is one of the best places in Bali for diving. The water in the bay is a lot calmer than in, say, Kuta. Surfing is therefore better done in Kuta. Lovina is a place where you can relax and do nothing at all. The atmospheric surroundings and the locals in the villages make the area very interesting and pleasant. You feel wonderfully at ease but can still count on some luxury. There are small shops and even ATMs in the centre.below are several highlights of lovina.

Dolphin tour

There is always something magical about dolphin spotting. There is something enchanting about the way they glide through the water and play on the surface. Therefore, if you are in Lovina you should definitely join a dolphin tour, it is one of the best things to do in Lovina itself.

North bali

The nice thing about these tours is that not only can you see the dolphins, but you can also swim with them. Outside the boat hangs a kind of swing that you hold on to with both hands. You are then dragged through the water and the captain tries to sail after the dolphins. You get very close to the dolphins, which you see dozens of them in the water. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The boat trips start only in the morning and practically every person on the beach is someone or knows someone with a boat. You can leave at 6am to catch the sunrise too. If you leave at 7.30 you have the advantage that it is a bit quieter because many boats will have returned by then.

Visit the Buddhist temple Brahmavihara-Arama

About a 20-minute drive from Pantai Lovina, the beautiful Buddhist monastery Brahmavihara-Arama is located on a hill. It’s fun to browse around here for a while and enjoy the tranquillity of the well-kept gardens. You will also find a replica of Java’s Borobudur temple, but in miniature. All in all, it is quite fun to visit for a while. The temple is also close to the famous hot springs. You can easily visit both together in a morning.

Enjoy beautiful sunsets on Lovina Beach

Sunsets in Lovina are fantastic. First of all, they are beautiful because the sky is filled with the most beautiful orange, purple and red colours. But the setting is also very relaxed. At several beach bars, you can enjoy this spectacle with your feet in the sand, sitting on a beanbag with a drink in your hand.
