When you fancy a proper escape from the bustle of Seminyak or Kuta, the out‑of‑town resorts in Bali are where the magic happens. Tucked away in lush hillsides, rice terraces or along quieter stretches of coastline, these spots give you the best of both worlds: a slice of paradise with all the comforts of a boutique stay. Think infinity pools overlooking jungle valleys, villas with open‑air showers, and sunsets that feel like they belong only to you. It is Bali, but with a slower rhythm, perfect for anyone who wants to swap the crowds for calm without losing the charm.

Alila Manggis

On Bali’s east coast near Candidasa, Alila Manggis is a seaside retreat framed by Mount Agung and coconut groves. The resort is low‑key yet stylish, with rooms opening onto gardens and a pool that feels like a secret lagoon. It is a brilliant base for diving in Amed or exploring traditional villages. The restaurant serves fresh seafood and local produce, and the spa offers treatments inspired by Balinese healing. It is peaceful, authentic, and far removed from the island’s busier hubs.

Mathis Lodge Amed

Mathis Lodge has decided to take the height by overlooking this whole area at more than 400 m above sea level. Made up of 20 individual lodges spread over the 2 hectares of the property, some lodges are equipped with an outdoor jacuzzi or an infinity pool, to keep you refreshed at all times. The larger ones can accommodate a family of 4 in complete comfort. The refined decoration style takes us into an ethnic atmosphere of East Indonesia between Papua, Sumba or Sumbawa.

The materials used are mostly natural between stone, wood, straw and tropical plants. The comfort and interior fittings contrast with the exterior and its surroundings – the bedding is worthy of a large luxury hotel, the bathroom products are 100% natural. The terraces are furnished with a large sofa and a king size day bed in the shade to take full advantage of the exceptional view from the property. A broadband fiber optic wifi is available in the rooms and in the common areas.

Mathis Retreat Ubud

At the heart of the Balinese ricefields, Mathis Retreat offers its guests an original and different escape. An ideal address to associate with a stay at Villa Mathis, less than an hour from Ubud, towards the sea and at Mathis Lodge in Amed, East Bali. On the principle of Secret Retreats accommodations in Asia, Mathis Retreat offers a concept of intimate and unique hotel in Ubud, making the property an original and authentic vision of Balinese luxury.

All 21 rooms and bungalows, encased in lush tropical vegetation, are decorated and arranged for your comfort, mixing modernity and Balinese tradition for the pleasure of the eyes. Large bedrooms and living rooms have been created for your relaxation, all equipped with air conditioning, with an area of between 40 and 50 m2, king or queen size bed (twins on request), sofa with terrace for the bedrooms or garden private for bungalows, full bathroom with bath and shower.

Munduk Moding Plantation

Perched in the highlands of North Bali, Munduk Moding Plantation is surrounded by coffee trees and panoramic mountain views. The infinity pool here is legendary, seemingly floating above the clouds. Villas are spacious, with fireplaces for cooler evenings. Guests can tour the plantation, learn about coffee production, or trek to nearby waterfalls. The resort champions eco‑friendly practices and supports local communities. It is a retreat that feels both indulgent and grounded, perfect for travellers who want to experience Bali’s quieter side.

Samanvaya Sidemen

Samanvaya resort is located in the middle of ricefields with lush greenery surroundings. An oasis of tranquillity, showing Bali’s authentic east side. The swimming pools, yoga barn, spa, and restaurant are all accessible by little paths. Although the Samanvaya Luxury Resort stands for luxury and claims to be “adult-only”, the real concept in our eyes is much more based on sustainability and regionality. Here, plastic is rigorously avoided, there is filtered water in glass bottles, the locals can exchange their plastic waste for rice and the hotel’s own garden grows fruit and vegetables that are processed by the restaurant. A whole battery of practices that many hotels in Bali and Indonesia could learn from.

At Samanvaya Luxury Resort, you have the feeling that you are completely on your own. Due to the arrangement of the cabins, you don’t hear much from the other guests and can relax at two pools or on your own terrace. You can choose between 12 very different types of accommodation – all of which offer you your own little villa or house.

Soori Bali

Nestled between rice fields and the ocean in Tabanan, Soori Bali is a design‑driven resort that feels both contemporary and rooted in tradition. Villas feature sleek lines, private pools, and views of either the sea or Mount Batukaru. The resort emphasises sustainability, working closely with local farmers and artisans. Activities range from cultural tours to yoga sessions by the beach. Dining is creative, with menus that celebrate Indonesian flavours. It is a stylish sanctuary for those who want luxury with a conscience.

The Menjangan

explore menjangan

Set inside Bali Barat National Park, The Menjangan is a nature lover’s dream. Think deer wandering past your villa, mangrove forests, and coral reefs just offshore. The resort offers horse riding, kayaking, and snorkelling in crystal waters. Accommodation ranges from jungle lodges to beachfront villas, all designed to blend with the environment. Dining is relaxed yet refined, with views across the bay. It is the sort of place where you can spend days exploring and nights under a blanket of stars.

Wapa di Ume Ubud

Just a short distance from central Ubud, Wapa di Ume Ubud offers an out-of-town escape where tranquillity, nature, and the calming rhythm of Ubud living come together. Surrounded by lush rice terraces and vibrant tropical landscapes, Wapa di Ume Ubud provides a peaceful sanctuary that embodies the soulful essence of Ubud’s culture and natural beauty.

Designed with a blend of traditional Balinese craftsmanship and contemporary elegance, the resort features warm wooden accents, natural textures, and soothing earth tones. Each villa and suite opens to serene views of rice fields and greenery, creating an atmosphere that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.

Guests are invited to experience Ubud’s gentle way of life through morning yoga sessions, offering-making activities, and leisurely walks along the resort’s iconic rice-field pathways. Nearby villages further showcase Ubud’s creative heritage, where local craftsmen bring culture to life through wood carvings and artwork. Wellness and dining also take centre stage, offering moments of rejuvenation inspired by Bali’s healing traditions.

As the year comes to a close, celebrate New Year’s Eve out of town and welcome the New Year with curated dining experiences, joyful holiday touches, and the serene beauty of Ubud—making your celebration meaningful, warm, and truly unforgettable.
