Just about at the corner of the cherished Goutama Selatan street, nestled a small ramen dining called Kazumi. Shortly after a friendly server took our order, the owner Mr. Ken, a Yokohama native, gave us a very warm greeting. Open door since 2019 the Izakaya-style restaurant usually packed with customers at dinner time. Often referred to as “Ubud’s hidden gem.” this popular restaurant offers a delightful blend of traditional flavors and a cozy atmosphere, making it a must-visit spot for both locals and travellers alike.

A Culinary Journey in Ubud

Ramen Dining Kazumi stands out in Ubud’s vibrant food scene with its dedication to quality and authenticity. The restaurant brings a slice of Japan to Bali, serving up a variety of ramen dishes that cater to diverse tastes. From rich, hearty broths to perfectly cooked noodles, each bowl is crafted with care and precision.

Now let’s discuss further on their dishes.

Authentic Ramen

First and foremost, the top highlight is their signature melt-in-your-mouth char-siu pork. A rich blend of soy sauce, mirin, and garlic marinates the tender slices of pork to perfection. They are slow-cooked for 6 hours until they reach a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. And with each bite of the tasty meat, it practically dissolves on your tongue. The char-siu adds an irresistible flavour to the ramen, complementing the umami-rich broth and springy noodles, creating a combination that makes the craving come true with every slurp.

Committed in bringing the authentic Japanese Ramen, all the noodles are homemade that are moderately aged within 4 days of production, along with that, Kazumi offer 3 options for the ramen broth they are:

  • Black Tonkotsu: Soy sauce & Tonkotsu based
  • Red Tonkotsu: Spicy-miso & Tonkotsu based

*Tonkotsu Ramen: Known for its creamy and rich pork bone broth, it is a hearty option that is sure to satisfy your cravings.

  • Miso Butter: Miso & sesame based

*Miso Ramen: For those who prefer a slightly sweeter and more complex flavor, the Miso Ramen offering a unique depth of flavor that pairs perfectly with the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.

Miso Butter is the broth option for vegetarian.

Side Dishes

Among the side dishes that the restaurant offers, here are some of the must-try-items in Kazumi:

  • Homemade gyoza (pan-fried style), which the chef beautifully cooks in the open kitchen. There are 3 meat options: pork, chicken, and soy meat for vegetarian.
  • Japanese-style Karaage (deep fried chicken) with 3 sauce options.
  • Fresh tuna sashimi
  • Fresh tuna carpaccio (Slightly grilled fatty tuna with citrus dressing & wasabi).

A Cosy Atmosphere

The intimate decor blends traditional Japanese styles with a modern casual touch, giving Ramen Dining Kazumi a cosy and welcoming vibe, making it a great spot for a laid-back meal. And when Mr. Ken, the owner, is present at the restaurant, he always tries to make a point to greet each customer as they come and go, adding a personal touch to your dining experience. The relaxed atmosphere and excellent service make your meal truly special and feel like home at the same time.
