Bali Safari offers an extraordinary educational experience for students through the “Safari Goes to School” program. Combining the wonders of wildlife conservation and the excitement of a safari adventure, this program brings learning to life in a completely new way.

Bali Safari is more than just an ordinary zoo. It is a conservation institution dedicated to protecting and preserving endangered species. With its vast open spaces and natural habitats, the park is home to over 100 species from around the world. From Sumatran tigers to Komodo dragons, Bali Safari offers a diverse encounter with wildlife.

What is Safari Goes to School?

Safari Goes to School is an innovative program initiated by Bali Safari to introduce the importance of nature conservation to the younger generation. The “Safari Goes to School” program allows students to go beyond the traditional classroom environment and immerse themselves in hands-on learning experiences. The concept involves bringing direct wildlife experiences into the school environment to provide in-depth learning to students.

This program is designed to educate students about wildlife conservation, animal behavior, and the importance of preserving biodiversity. It aims to inspire young people to participate in environmental conservation efforts. In this edition, Safari Goes to School was held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at SD Negeri 2 Lebih, Jl. Raya Pantai Lebih No. 250, Desa Lebih, Kec. Gianyar, Kab. Gianyar, Bali.

Exciting and Interesting Event

The Safari Goes to School event started at 9:00 am with an introduction to the fourth-grade students, followed by a presentation from the Bali Safari Education Team introducing animals, wildlife, endemic species in Indonesia, and the classification of animals based on their diets: herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. The education team also introduced the various species found at Bali Safari using props such as bird and reptile eggs, bird feathers, as well as the differences between antlers and horns.

The event continued with a conservation-themed snakes and ladders game, introducing fun activities related to nature conservation such as not littering, promoting care for animals in the surroundings, and more. The Safari Goes to School event concluded with a symbolic tree planting activity at the school, where tree saplings were handed over to the school authorities.

Objectives of Safari Goes to School

The program aims to increase students’ awareness of the importance of the environment and animal protection, as well as how to maintain ecological balance. Safari Goes to School also provides students with the opportunity to observe and interact directly with the animals they learn about. This provides a more lively and engaging learning experience compared to just reading books or watching videos.

“As part of National Children’s Day, this program is implemented to introduce Indonesian endemic species and the threats they face to school children. Children are encouraged to preserve the environment by planting trees and caring for animals around their homes. Moreover, children are also invited to preserve the environment in a fun way through exciting environmental games.” – Putu Angga Adnyani, Education Supervisor at Bali Safari Park.

The Benefits of Safari Goes to School

  • Exciting Experience: Safari Goes to School offers an innovative approach to learning by combining direct experiences with wildlife and school curriculum content. In this case, Bali Safari will visit schools, bringing live animals or real objects from the wild.
  • Bringing Wildlife into the Classroom: One of the main objectives of Safari Goes to School is to bring wildlife into the classroom and provide real experiences for students. Bali Safari will introduce various types of wildlife, including rare or endangered species, through presentations, lectures, or direct demonstrations. This provides students with the opportunity to see, touch, and interact with wildlife they may have never seen before.
  • Multidisciplinary Learning: Safari Goes to School offers multidisciplinary learning that crosses various subjects. Students can learn about biology, biodiversity, the environment, geography, language, art, and mathematics through direct experiences with wildlife. For example, they can study animal habitats, life cycles, food chains, and human impacts on the environment.
  • Increasing Environmental Awareness: By bringing direct wildlife experiences into the classroom, Safari Goes to School also aims to increase students’ awareness of the importance of preserving the natural environment. Students can see the impact of human activities on wildlife and learn about the steps that can be taken to protect ecosystems.

Bali Safari is a means of wildlife conservation and education. Together with Bali Safari, we can preserve nature and create a better future for our planet.
