Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, announces the opening of Hiliwatu, Bali Ubud, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. The tranquil resort invites travelers to reconnect with nature’s gentle cadence while celebrating Ubud’s artistic soul and enduring sense of place.

Nestled within the tranquil hillside village of Bresela, Gianyar, Hiliwatu draws its name from the land itself – “Hili” meaning hill and “Watu” meaning stone, a poetic reflection of strength, grounding, and natural grace. The resort is envisioned as more than a retreat; it is a living story of admiration and reverence for Bali’s timeless spirit. Spanning 26,000 square meters of lush landscape, Hiliwatu embodies Tribute Portfolio’s celebration of individuality, creativity, and local character.

“I am proud to announce the opening of Hiliwatu Bali Ubud, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. This marks another important chapter for the brand in Indonesia,” said Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President, Indonesia and Malaysia, Marriott International. “Tribute Portfolio brings together independent hotels with distinctive stories, creative expression, and a spirit of connection. Ubud, with its artistic heritage and deep sense of harmony, is an ideal setting for a brand that celebrates individuality and character. With the opening of Hiliwatu, we continue to expand our Tribute Portfolio presence and strengthen our commitment to offering one of a kind stays that resonate deeply with travelers.”

A Sanctuary Shaped by Design and Meaning

Guided by the belief that design is not only about space but also about spirit, the resort is shaped as a flowing dialogue between landscape and life. The resort’s 38 intimate sanctuaries comprising 24 suite rooms, 12 one-bedroom villas, one three-bedroom villa, and one four-bedroom villa, unfold gracefully across the hillside; each echoing Ubud’s natural rhythm through handcrafted materials, open-air layouts, and tranquil forest views.

The 24-meter-high lobby rises as a sculptural centerpiece of light and serenity, where water cascades through three tiers of pools, inviting reflection and calm. Beside a tranquil pond, an architectural landmark houses a wedding chapel, dining venues, and spa spaces within one harmonious structure – a thoughtful composition that reflects Bali’s spiritual balance of Rwa Bhineda, where stillness and discovery, stone and water, coexist in natural harmony.

Hiliwatu invites guests to rediscover Bali from a fresh vantage point. A heliport offering 360-degree views of Ubud’s undulating landscape redefines arrival, while curated artworks from emerging Balinese artists infuse each space with storytelling. The resort’s open-air chapel, The Pavilion, transforms throughout the day – from a wellness sanctuary at sunrise to a vibrant culinary space at dusk, embodying Tribute Portfolio’s belief that great design can be fluid and full of life. It also serves as a beautifully versatile venue for intimate weddings, offering an elegant and serene setting for couples to celebrate their special moment.

Rooted in Place, Crafted with Purpose

At the heart of the resort’s culinary philosophy lies a deep respect for the land. Tapis celebrates local cuisine inspired by Balinese heritage and crafted with ingredients sourced from nearby partner farms. Nira, a sky-high oasis where Balinese soul meets Mediterranean zest, invites guests to sip and savor till sundown. Omber, the resort’s signature restaurant, presents expressive, fire-inspired dining shaped by seasonality and the individual voice of its chef, featuring Mediterranean grill and classic steakhouse style cuisine. A chic pool bar overlooking the rice terraces completes the experience, offering curated events and refreshing creations that reflect Ubud’s natural bounty.

Nature’s Rhythm, Reimagined in Wellness

Samya Wellness draws inspiration from the surrounding elements of stone and water. Treatments blend mineral-infused rituals, crystal meditations, and open-air yoga sessions, inviting guests to reconnect with their inner flow. Using 100% natural, locally sourced ingredients, Samya reflects Ubud’s healing spirit, a place where wellness is more than a mere buzzword, but a way of life.

Every aspect of Hiliwatu tells a story, from the locally sourced timber that shapes its interiors to the Balinese craftsmanship that defines its design. The resort offers 24-hour fitness facilities, intimate event spaces, and immersive experiences that bridge guests with the local Bresela community. Guests can explore nearby cultural landmarks such as Ubud Palace, Tegallalang Rice Fields, and Ayung River, or simply let nature set the pace from their private balcony overlooking the forest.

“Hiliwatu is a resort born from awe for nature, for craftsmanship, and for connection,” said Yudi Hendarsyah, General Manager of Hiliwatu, Bali Ubud. “Every path, every stone, and every detail was designed to echo Ubud’s heartbeat. Through our spaces, our people, and our experiences, we open a new door to nature’s rhythm and invite guests to find balance. Our team is ready to welcome travelers from around the world with the warmth, sincerity, and spirit that define Ubud.”

A Commitment to Community and Sustainability

True to its ethos of purposeful hospitality, Hiliwatu fosters meaningful engagement with the local community. Guests can participate in curated cultural experiences, from traditional craft workshops to guided visits to partner villages, gaining insight into Balinese rituals and sustainable agriculture.

The resort also champions sustainable practices, integrating eco-conscious design, water and energy management, and locally sourced materials throughout the property. Dining experiences prioritize farm-to-table principles, supporting neighboring farms and preserving Ubud’s agricultural heritage. Hiliwatu’s wellness programs further emphasize the harmony between human wellbeing and environmental stewardship, ensuring that every stay nurtures the body and the planet.

Hiliwatu, Bali Ubud, a Tribute Portfolio Resort participates in Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s award-winning travel program. Members can earn and redeem points for stays, experiences, and more across Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of brands.
