Bali is a remarkably varied island. Therefore, which region is most suitable for you depends entirely on where your preferences lie. One of the reasons why many world travellers always end up in Bali again is because of this variety. In a relatively small area, you can be in a completely different environment in Bali within a one-hour drive. That you can respond to your needs in such a short time makes Bali the perfect holiday destination. We hereby list the different regions in Bali for you.

North Bali

If you are looking for peace, you must be here. Bali has many spectacular waterfalls, and many of these waterfalls are located in the north. In addition, the coast of the north is a perfect dive and snorkel spot because there is a rich underwater world here. The climate towards the north is cooler compared to the rest of the island. The average temperature is about 21 degrees. Besides, you will not only find the usual rice fields in the north but also many other types of vegetation. At higher altitudes, many monkeys fly through the trees and you could watch wild dolphins jumping out of the sea.

East Bali

With a knotted sarong, you can visit the most beautiful temples, palaces and gardens in the east. You will also discover the famous Mount Agung and Mount Batur volcanoes. East Bali is the authentic part of the island and a must for both culture and nature lovers. Several small villages and fishing villages are located on the coast where the original Balinese live among the green rice fields.

South Bali

Location: Alila Seminyak

South Bali is where everything happens. It is hip and happening and you will find next to the capital Denpasar. Big seaside resorts are decorating the area of Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta and Uluwatu. For tourists and ex-pats, the south of Bali is the most popular place to stay as it is the most developed part of the island. Because of this, you will find not much of the Asian culture, but many hip western clubs and crowded beach bars. The waves are a bit stronger in the south, which means that travellers can also surf a lot here in addition to relaxing in the sand.

West Bali

Location: West Bali National Park

The west of Bali is still quiet and relatively untouched by tourism. In the various traditional villages, you get the feeling you are almost the only tourist among the locals. Unlike the other regions, West Bali is very mysterious. Besides the famous Tanah Lot temple, the rest of the region is not often visited or discovered by travellers. The west is known for its many beautiful, quiet and long beaches. Therefore, it is the perfect place to unwind between these untouched wonders of the island.

Ubud region

Location: Samsara Ubud

This is a region in central Bali. Because this region is unique in relation to North, East, South, and West Bali, Ubud certainly deserves a separate place in this list of regions. The Ubud region is known for its many rice fields, jungle and the centre where all hippies come to. The area is packed with yoga studios, healthy dining options and recently also a lot of tourism. Ubud is seen as the creative heart of Bali and many artists, writers, digital nomads and ex-pats live here with their own companies in yoga or the sustainable sector. Due to its central location, Ubud is not only the creative heart of Bali, but this region is also seen as the cultural centre. Despite the many tourists, much of the Indonesian culture and nature has been preserved here.

After a small detour in obstetrics and biology, Anne found her true passion for communication. She decided to exchange the figures, formulas and molecules for letters, organisations and design where she first was able to express her creativity in theatre and writing. Various committees with functions that are in line with communication, and her position as Public Relations board member at the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival, allowed her to already cast a glance on what’s important in communication and writing at young age.
