Sudamala Resort, Seraya proudly announces the launch of its integrated solar energy system, now supplying 80–85 percent of the resort’s daily operations with clean, renewable energy. Located on the secluded Seraya Kecil Island near Labuan Bajo, this milestone underscores the transition from fossil fuel dependence to sustainable energy solutions in one of Indonesia’s most pristine destinations.

With this bold move, Sudamala reduces its carbon footprint while strengthening its commitment to sustainable tourism. The initiative further enhances Labuan Bajo’s growing reputation as a world-class destination where sustainability and natural beauty coexist in harmony.

The newly commissioned system comprises 480 solar panels with a capacity of 300 kWp, supported by a 770 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that ensures uninterrupted power supply even after sunset. It is projected to generate 410,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, cutting carbon emissions by 370,000 kilograms per year—equivalent to planting more than 4,900 trees.

“This transition reflects our commitment not just to sustainability but also to align with our environmentally conscious guests,” said Ben Subrata, CEO of Sudamala Resorts.“We hope this will inspire other hospitality operators, especially those in remote island locations, to embrace renewable energy.”

This initiative aligns closely with Indonesia’s national energy transition roadmap and Labuan Bajo’s vision of becoming a green destination.

Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, commended the project, stating: “Sudamala Resort, Seraya stands as a strong testament that environmental stewardship can go hand in hand with business sustainability and regional development. As Labuan Bajo grows into a world-class tourism destination, initiatives like this ensure that our progress remains sustainable, responsible, and future-oriented. This is also part of our broader vision for Nusa Tenggara Timur to become Indonesia’s renewable energy hub.

Vice Regent of Manggarai Barat, Dr. Yulianus Weng, M., also praised the effort: “Nusa Tenggara Timur has all the assets to become Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Hub. From solar along the coasts, geothermal, to wind across the islands, our province is blessed with abundant clean energy resources. What we need is not only investment and technology, but also a spirit of collaboration between government, private sector, and the community. If NTT leads this transformation, it will not only advance our region but also contribute to Indonesia’s energy independence and a greener future for the world. Sudamala Resort, Seraya stands as a concrete example of clean energy adoption. This initiative not only supports the government’s renewable energy programme but also reflects a commitment to sustaining a comfortable and environmentally responsible setting. Congratulations on this important achievement.”

The project was realised in collaboration with Xurya, a leading solar energy provider, and Suryagen, a specialist in energy storage and solar solutions.

Eka Himawan, Managing Director of Xurya, shared: “This partnership proves that renewable energy is both environmentally responsible and financially sound. Every kilowatt of solar power reduces emissions while lowering costs. Our mission is to make clean energy accessible across Indonesia, and Sudamala’s trust marks a bold benchmark for the hospitality sector.”

Alvin Pontoh, President Director of Suryagen, added: “We are proud to bring solar innovation to one of Indonesia’s most extraordinary destinations. This energy transition strengthens operational resilience while directly supporting the nation’s net-zero goals and Labuan Bajo’s green vision.”

The completion and synchronisation of this project mark a significant milestone in Sudamala’s sustainability journey. It demonstrates how renewable energy can be effectively integrated into remote hospitality operations while setting a precedent for future developments in Labuan Bajo and beyond.
