All the way in the northeast of Bali, you will come across this fascinating nature reserve west of the Mount Batur: the Kintamani area. Bali is known for its beautiful nature. One of the most fantastic places to visit to experience this nature is the Kintamani area. The dramatic view of the active Mount Batur volcano and the serene Lake Batur is breathtaking and something you don’t want to miss. In this peaceful highland, you can dream between natural beauty from the restaurants that line the hilly roads.

This region is also called the Batur area. The area gets its name the Kintamani area from one of the three main villages on the crater rim. Kintamani is an area with impressive volcanic peaks around a deep blue crater lake. The Kintamani area was created 30,000 years ago by the eruption of the gigantic volcano. The rim of the outer crater has a length of 13.5 by 10 kilometres, with the still-active Mount Batur of 1717 meters high, in the centre.

Kintamani Highland
The Kintamani area is known for its exquisite surroundings. If you want to enjoy these exquisite surroundings, there is no better place to stop than at Kintamani Highland. Here, the main road runs along the west side of the crater. On this eleven kilometres long road along the crater rim, the villages Penelokan, Batur, and Kintamani are located close together. The big attraction here is the view, which is most impressive from Penelokan. The local museum in Penelokan provides information on geology and the area. Here you can also find two important temples.

There are dozens of restaurants along this road, all of which offer magnificent panoramic views. For the best view of Mount Batur, you have to visit these restaurants on a clear day. If there are no clouds you’ll find a beautiful view of Mount Batur and the nearby Lake Batur, where the sun will reflect in the water surface. Here you can also discover the black lava, which poured down during the last volcanic eruption of Mount Batur, destroying many houses. A side road from the main road gives access to the Lake Batur, the crater lake. Something to keep in mind is that this is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bali.

Lake Batur
This crater lake can be found nearby Mount Batur. Between the rocky area, there is unexpectedly this enchanting and serene lake. The Lake Batur makes the entire area even more special. Lake Batur is Bali’s largest lake. It has a length of 7 km, a width of 2.5 km and a depth of 60 meters.

Hot springs
On the west side of Lake Batur, besides restaurants, there are several natural hot springs. These are located directly along the lake, and they offer a magnificent view of Lake Batur and Mount Batur. Here you can relax in the warm spring water and enjoy yourself.

After a small detour in obstetrics and biology, Anne found her true passion for communication. She decided to exchange the figures, formulas and molecules for letters, organisations and design where she first was able to express her creativity in theatre and writing. Various committees with functions that are in line with communication, and her position as Public Relations board member at the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival, allowed her to already cast a glance on what’s important in communication and writing at young age.
