ASCOTT properties in Bali including 11 hotels and Serviced Apartments, under Citadines, Préférence Hotels, HARRIS Hotels, FOX HARRIS Hotels, YELLO Hotels, POP! Hotels and Beachwalk Residence, held a beach cleaning event in the tourist area of Kuta Beach, under the initiative Say No To Plastic.
The Beach Clean Up collaborated with One Island One Voice – a local organization that brings communities together to Bali’s biggest clean up, inspiring and engaging generations to care for coastal and marine ecosystems around Bali at the same time. The event is part of ASCOTT Regional Bali CSR & Activation Program with the objective to contribute to the Island of Bali in the form of cleaning the beach area and also tighten the relationship amongst ASCOTT members, local schools and village community.
This event is Bali’s Biggest Clean Up. Over the past six years, the movement has brought together more than 70,000 people at 560 locations in Bali and prevented 203 tons of non-organic waste from entering the ocean. Together with the community movement in Bali, they collaborate with like-minded people to create change. As the tourists come to Bali for warm hospitality, clean green and crystal clear beaches. The nature of Bali suffers from over use of plastic and most of the people are still not aware of the consequences by throwing the trash, especially inorganic trash, carelessly to the ocean. This is certainly becoming a huge problem in Bali.
Cluster General Manager of ASCOTT Bali Region, Mr. Nyoman Wirayasa acted as the committee advisor for this event and stated that this program is organized by ASCOTT Regional Bali to sensitize the community to give importance on protecting and preserving the environment. “So much trash gets dumped in the tourist area every year. The garbage includes plastic bottles, plastic bags and packaging, food wrappers and cigarettes – detracting from the natural beauty of the shore. It is a good example for us to follow and make our environment to be better in the future. I am delighted that this event acts as a campaign of awareness to remind the community to protect our tourist area”, added Mr. Nyoman.
This activation program is aligned with ‘Ascott Cares’ that is their commitment to extending their culture of care and hospitality to the people and environments they interact. They seek to deliver on this promise through a sustainability programme, which is centered around five fundamental pillars of Community, Alliance, Respect, Environment and Supply chain.
